The funding and deals wire

Superintelligence (SI)Artificial Intelligence (AI)

SI is the new AI. Stag Wire is the wire for both: who raised, who bought whom, and which deals matter. Written for founders, investors and operators.

On the wire this week

Every item says what is known and what is not. "Widely reported" means many outlets carry it; it is not the same as confirmed. Each item links to its outlet.

  1. Raise29 Sep 2026

OpenAI reportedly seeks $30B at a $1.4T valuation.

In plain words: a company is reportedly asking investors for $30 billion. Not final until the company says so.

  2. IPO29 Sep 2026

Anthropic reportedly targets a mid-November IPO.

In plain words: the company may sell shares to the public for the first time. Dates in reports can move.

Widely reported · 9 outlets Source: Bloomberg HT (opens in a new tab)

  3. Compute deal1 Oct 2026

Tencent reportedly leases 100,000 AI chips from Oracle for $7B.

In plain words: a rental of computing power, not a purchase of a company.

Widely reported · 6 outlets Source: TechRepublic (opens in a new tab)

  4. Chips28 Sep 2026

China may allow ByteDance and Alibaba to buy NVIDIA RTX PRO 5500 chips.

In plain words: a possible change in who is allowed to buy certain chips. Still a report.

How a Stag Wire item reads

One line, five facts. This is an example: both companies are fictional.

Example · fictional companies

Larkspur Systems buys Tidewell Data for $210 million in cash and stock.

Who
Larkspur Systems (buyer), Tidewell Data (target)
What
An acquisition, announced by both companies
Size
$210 million, cash and stock
Why it matters
A buyer is adding data tools instead of building them. One to watch if you sell to either side.
Label
Confirmed with a link to the announcement

Invented for illustration. Not a real deal and not a recommendation.

Who it is for

One wire, three ways to read it

Founders

Know who raised in your space and at what size before you walk into the room. Know who just got bought, and who might want to buy next.

Investors

See the week's rounds, exits and rumours in one place, each with its source and its label. News for your own research, never a tip.

Operators

Your vendor was acquired. Your competitor raised. Read what changed for your team in a minute, then get on with your day.

The Stag Wire glossary

Deal words, in plain English

Every wire item uses these words the same way. Anyone can read them out loud.

Seed round
The first outside money a young company takes, usually to build a first version.
Series A, B, C
Later funding rounds, each usually bigger than the last. The letter is a label, not a grade.
Valuation
The price tag put on a whole company in a deal.
Acquisition
One company buys another: the acquirer buys the target.
Acqui-hire
A company bought mostly for its people; the product is often switched off.
IPO
Initial public offering: shares sold to the public on a stock market for the first time.
Compute deal
A deal for computing power, such as chips or data-centre time, rather than for a company.
Reportedly
Outlets carry it, but the companies have not confirmed it. A lead, not a fact.

Our promise: news, labelled

  • Confirmed The company or a primary document says so.
  • Widely reported Many outlets carry it; no primary confirmation yet.
  • Unconfirmed One outlet, or a rumour. Treat with care.

Deals are news, not investment advice. We take no ads and no affiliate money, and we are vendor-neutral. You decide what a deal means for you.

Superintelligence (SI) is the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI). In late September 2026 a US executive order (14355) told federal agencies to say "Super Intelligence" in place of "AI". It is a new name, not a claim that machines now outthink people.
